Ofsted Report 2016

Sir Herbert Leon Academy Disappointed with

Ofsted Category Designation After GCSE Results Double

Following the best GCSE results for three years in the Summer, Sir Herbert Leon Academy is disappointed to have been put into Special Measures following a recent Ofsted inspection.

The Ofsted report recognises the improvements in results in 2016 and areas of increasing strength, particularly at Post-16. Commenting on the report, Principal, Dr Jo Trevenna, says ‘Although we are of course disappointed, we welcome this feedback from Ofsted, which highlights where the school needs to improve. Significantly, we had already started to implement the changes required to tackle the issues raised by the inspection team. We have launched our new Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare policy and systems to provide wraparound  support for our students and have developed targeted training programmes to improve learning in the academy.  The work we did last year to make the curriculum fit for purpose has already had impact but we acknowledge that we are at the start of our journey of sustainable school improvement. We are under no illusions that there is still a lot to do.  We are revising key policies and structures so that we can deliver the best results for all of our learners.’

Provisional exam results for 2016 show that Sir Herbert Leon Academy is above floor standard for student progress.
