SHLA Curriculum

Our curriculum aims to enable all young people to become:
  • Successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve
  • Confident individuals who are able to lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
  • Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution

The elements of every child matters are an integral element of our curriculum:

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic well being
  • We also believe in promoting a personalised curriculum wherever possible.

The curriculum for each year group is organised to strengthen both the challenge and support offered to all students.

Key Stage 3

We have a dedicated transition manager who ensures that Year 6 students are supported with their move into secondary education. The Key Stage 3 curriculum is designed to ensure that learners maintain their progress through their transition from Year 6 to the end of Year 8 to build their confidence through personal development and to equip learners with the skills to make them successful lifelong learners.  In Years 7 and 8 the curriculum is broad and students learn in mixed ability groups.   In Year 9, students are set as they start to consider their KS4 options.  Students and parents receive individual advice and guidance from Careers advisers and their Personal Tutor about possible choices.

Key Stage 4

In Years 10 and 11 the setting of students is further streamlined to meet their specific KS4 needs.  All students have access to a wide range of subjects and qualifications.

Key Stage 5

At Key Stage 5 our MK South Sixth Form incorporates a wide range of courses at all three levels. Courses may be studied at either Lord Grey, SHL Academy or at a combination of both sites.
