Maths Trip to King’s College, London
On Friday May 2nd, our Maths Excellence students (eight eager Year 7 mathematicians who meet with Mrs Green weekly to grapple with extra-curricular problems) were invited to King’s College, London.
On arrival, we were split into groups with other schools for the Maths Circles activity. Through playing a game of Hex, we extended our learning of factors. The game encouraged collaboration and strengthening of our number skills. We then received a tour of the campus and had a Q&A with university students, finding out about ‘uni’ life. After lunch, we attended a lecture in the main theatre entitled “Magic squares and donuts“- this was both interesting and entertaining as magic squares were wrapped around to become a donut. As we made our way home, we walked along the Thames to the tube station looking at some of the sights of London, such as the London Eye and Big Ben.
